Ashley Clayton Smith, 66, of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013. He was the son of the late Ernest Smith and Margaret Finch Miller.

Ashley was a longtime Boy Scouts of America leader where he was involved for over forty years. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margo Ivey Smith; daughter, Erin S. Earle and husband, Mike of Wyalusing, PA; son, Lee Smith and wife, Pam of Fayetteville, NC; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Dayne Smith, Miranda Faith Smith, Jonathan Michael Earle, Kayleigh Dianan Smith, Morrigan Elizabeth Smith, and Conner James Earle; 3 brothers, Braxton 'Butch' Brown and wife, Faye of Roanoke Rapids, David Miller of Roanoke Rapids, and Jeff Smith and wife, Debbie of Easton, PA; special sons, Michael Clark, Travis Mahaffey and wife, Robin and their son Aiden, and Michael Clark; sisters-in-law, Angel Whitby and husband, Andy of Weldon, NC, Inez Futrell and husband, John of Woodland, NC.

The family expresses a special thank you to everyone who has supported them throughout the last 18 months.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at South Rosemary Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jimmy King. Interment will follow in Crestview Cemetery.
